Summer Vintage Wardrobe Essentials – Dresses

I can’t believe summer is almost here! It’s my favorite season because I am always cold and the heat of the summer is perfect for me. Plus I LOVE wearing dresses and skirts in the summer. I’ve been looking forward to adding summery clothes to my wardrobe and I came up with this list of my favorite vintage style summer dresses and where to find them. A lot of vintage reproduction stores now have their summer lines out so its the perfect time to do some summer wardrobe shopping!

The first selection of dresses I am going to show you is from Unique Vintage. I get a lot of my clothes from here, and they sell from multiple brands, so its a good place to look. I love sleeveless or short sleeve shirt dresses for summer and Unique Vintage has several that I really love. Banned Yellow & Pink Beach Parasol Print Cotton Button Up Dress (pictured left), Light Blue & Blooming Floral Print Button Up Swing Dress (pictured center) and

Summer is a great time to wear spaghetti strap or halter top dresses. Having no sleeves will help keep you cool in those hot summer months. I don’t know why but Gingham dresses just scream summer picnics to me, like this Red & White Gingham Retro Picnic Sundress (pictured left). Polka dot dresses are another thing I attribute to summer and this Vintage Style Red & White Polka Dot Cotton Flare Dress (pictured center) is so cute and comfortable, I have the same dress in white with black Polka Dots you may have seen on one of my previous outfit of the day posts. This next dress is one I have been coveting since I first saw it a few weeks ago Retro Style Ice Cream Print Jade Sleeveless Swing Dress by Collectif (pictured right), they also make a skirt in this same print if you’d rather have that. Unique Vintage has many great dresses for summer besides the one I showed you here check out their website for more.

The next website that I choose to show you summer dresses from is Lindy Bop. I like Lindy Bop because most of their dresses are less than $50 and are great for us vintage gals on a budget. For some reason this summer I am really in to flamingos and Lindy Bop has this adorable ‘Nadia’ Pink Flamingo Stripe Print Cotton Swing Dress (pictured left). ‘Honor’ White Quaint Floral Border Print Swing Dress (pictured center). ‘Corinna’ Blue Chambray Tropical Embroidered Swing Dress (pictured right).

If you have a little extra money to spend on your wardobe, Pinup Girl Clothing has some great quality dresses from great vintage reproduction designers like Laura Byrnes. Pinup I really love the Pinup Couture Edie Dress in Palm Print (pictured left) I have a skirt with this same exact print. I love dresses that have the cut out in the stomach area and the Dapper Day for Couture For Every Body Renee Dress in Flag Print (pictured center) has that! Sarong dresses are some of my favorite vintage style dresses for summer and the Bali H’ai Dress in Hawaiian Honeymoon by Charles Phoenix (pictured right) is perfect for a Tiki party.

All these websites provide so many more great options for summer dresses. Be sure to check them out and let me know what your favorite vintage and vintage reproduction dresses for summer are!

Outfit of the Day

Outfits of the Day May 14th to 18th

The weather was very weird this week, not the warmest and raining and cloudy mostly. The 80 degree weather we had two weeks ago was a tease! I actually had to wear thicker cardigans a couple times this week. We’re also at that weird in between stage where its too warm for my thick, wool vintage swing coats, but not warm enough to wear no nothing outside.

It was a chilly, grey day so I wore 3/4 sleeves and a grey skirt that has been sitting in my closet unworn for a few months.

Today it was chilly again, so I wore a black knit cardigan, but I took it off for the picture because I liked the outfit better without the cardigan. I’m taking advantage of wearing these turbans while its chilly to keep my head warm. Once it gets hot I won’t be able to wear them for a while, sadly. This button up top by Banned Retro is a great staple for vintage outfits because it comes in several different colors as well and you can mix and match with different skirts and pants.

So I wore green two days in a row! But it’s a different shade of green so that’s ok right? I love the fit of this dress and how the skirt flares out just at the bottom. This dress comes in multiple colors on Amazon and I am definitely going to have to go back and order more colors, especially since its less than $35. Today was accessories day for the Instagram Vintage Fashion Challenge so I had to wear this awesome hair flower clip. I need more flower clips in my life!

Today I was loving my outfit. I’ve worn this dress before, but only by itself. Today I paired it with a cropped cardigan because it’s chilly again. I LOVE the way this outfit looks! I need more Heidi dresses with cropped cardigans! The Red in the Cardigan doesn’t match the red on the dress exactly, but I’m probably the only one that notices lol.

This weekend is supposed to be raining and crappy again, so it will be interesting to see what I put together for outfits. Next week starting Monday though we are supposed to have sunny weather in the 60s and low 70s all week, so I am excited for the outfit possibilities. Vintage Spring Wardrobe Essentials – Tops

Now is the time when we can start wearing lighter weight tops and short sleeves! But like I said in my previous post, it is always best to keep a light weight cardigan handy for those chilly spring mornings and nights. Luckily for me I work inside so I am protected from the Spring elements during the day and can show off my beautiful arm tattoos in short sleeves. The following is a list of my favorite spring tops that you can pair with skirts and pants. Sometimes in the spring it is still a little chilly so pairing a short sleeve top with a pair of nice vintage trousers or jeans will keep you warm enough, but also help you from over heating.

The U.K. based vintage reproduction clothing company, Vivien of Holloway makes a lovely Mandarin Short Sleeve Top  (images are property of Vivien of Holloway) that comes in 17 different colors! This top pairs great with both swing skirts and vintage trousers.

Another great spring blouse, also made by Vivien of Holloway, is the Jojo Blouse  (images are property of Vivien of Holloway). The Jojo blouse comes in both satin crepe in solid colors and crepe gingham.

Another one of my favorite sites to purchase vintage reproductions clothes from is Unique Vintage. They have many great blouses and tops to choose from. Spring is the prefect time to start adding floral back into your wardrobe, like this 1950s Style Mint Floral Chiffon blouse by Hell Bunny (pictured left, property of Unique Vintage). Another great spring top option is a vintage short sleeved sweater (pictured middle, property of Unique Vintage).  A great staple blouse is this Retro Style Short Sleeve Button up Blouse (pictured right, property of Unique Vintage), it comes in several colors and it pairs great with trousers, swing skirts and pencil skirts. And a plus Unique Vintage carries all these tops I mentioned in plus sizes as well.

If you aren’t ready to fully commit to short sleeves yet than go for a 3/4 length sleeve. There are several different vintage options for those that I have found. Pinup Couture makes the Doris Top (pictured left, property of Pinup Girl Clothing) in several different colors and sizes range from XS to 4X.  And another staple that pairs perfectly with pencil skirts and trousers is the Banned Retro Three Quarter Sleeve Love Top (pictured right, property of Unique Vintage), it comes in several different colors for easy matching with several different outfits. I have this top in 3 colors 🙂
