Outfit of the Day

Outfits of the Day, May 21st to 25th

The weather continues to be back and forth. Some days were nice (mostly) but some days were chilly. I can’t wait for it to be 70 degrees when I get up in the morning, so I don’t have to worry about a sweater anymore for the mornings and then get hot in the afternoon. I did not wear vintage on Tuesday this week because it was rainy and cold, so I wore a modern trouser and blouse (I didn’t take a picture because it was boring). I still need to invest in some 1940s trousers for days like this.

Today I finally got to wear a true vintage skirt from the 1950s that I found at The Vintage Market in Salem, CT at the end of March.

I was off from work today and it was a beautiful, warm, sunny day so I wore a dress that I wouldn’t wear to work normally. I got to spend some time in the ward with my dog, which was nice! And of course I can never take a picture at home without her at my feet!

Outfit of the Day

April 23rd-26th, 2018 Outfits of the Day

Rather than posting a new blog post every day for each outfit I wear, I decided to group them into one post for week day outfits and one post for weekend outfits. So basically I will be posting what I wear to work during the week and what I wear on the weekends. This week I am only worked 4 days because I am getting ready to have a long weekend in the warm Florida sun. This is my first full week in a long time wearing dresses and skirts every day because the weather was actually bearable. I was also excited to wear some new pieces I’ve been savings for warmer weather.

Monday, April 23rd

Mondays are tough because I am not a morning person and Monday is my early day of the week to wake up. So please don’t play attention to the fact that my hair is not curled and I have pretty much no makeup on. I’m wearing this Dress for the first time that I got on Amazon a few months ago. I only paid $9.99 for this dress!! Unfortunately it is not available at the moment or else I would give you a link to it. For the price that I paid it is very nice quality and the material has a little bit of a stretch to it which I love. The only problem I had was with the belt that came with it. The belt didn’t have enough holes to make it small enough for my waist, so I ended up taking a belt from another dress to wear with it.

Today I woke up and it was sunny, so I decided to break out the floral skirt that I have been saving for a warm sunny spring day. I bought it about a month ago, believe it or not at Forever 21! It was also the perfect outfit to wear my true vintage 1950s hat that I found at The Vintage Market in Salem, CT a few weeks ago. And how could I know wear my Take My Leash not my life enamel pin from Pinups for Pitbulls, Inc. I am definitely enjoying this weather and I look forward to more!

Ok, so you might have noticed that I skipped Wednesday. Well that was because it was a really crappy day and down pouring rain all day, so I didn’t wear anything cute or new. I am a wimp about wearing dresses or skirts when the weather is bad, mostly because I have a long walk from the parking lot to my building at work and I didn’t want my feet to get wet. Wet cold feet are the worst thing to me. Today I am excited that I did get to wear a new dress that I bought during the winter and have been saving. This Navy and White Polka Dot dress was another inexpensive score from Amazon!! I am really impressed with the quality of the material of the dress. It fits perfectly and the dress has a little stretch but its not a spandex material so it still looks nice. It was less than $35 and if you have a prime account you can get free shipping. The dress also comes in a ton of colors, so I will definitely be buying more.

Tomorrow I leave for vacation so I am counting Friday’s outfit as my one of my weekend outfits, which I will post separately once the weekend is over. I am going to sunny Florida so I am excited to wear some new summery outfits!

Vintage Inspired Clothes at Forever 21

So when you think of Forever 21, you probably don’t think of vintage style clothes. They are more of the teenager, trendy type clothes. But believe it or not I have found a few pieces there (swing as swing skirts) that could definitely pass off as vintage inspired. It is hit or miss whether they are going to have anything or not, but I always check, because they have such great prices and you can always find at least one thing. My daughter shops in this store so every time I bring her it gives me the opportunity to look for some vintage looking pieces. Here are a few of the cute pieces I was just able to find today.

If you like the Rockabilly style they have a few pencil style dresses that are perfect and they are under $15!! They have one with a Cherry Print and one with a Gingham Print. These also have this exact style dress in a few solid colors, but I think these two patterns have more of a retro feel to them.

I actually saw this plaid button up pencil skirt (pictured left) on a different vintage reproduction clothing companies website and its almost exactly the same except for that weird strap above the waste (I would remove that strap personally). And I love vintage a line skirts that have buttons down the center like the one pictured on the right.

Sets and playsuits where a big thing in the summer time during the 40s and 50s and Forever 21 actually has a bunch of sets that are vintage inspired. My Two favorite are the Banana Print Linen Blend Top and Skirt (pictured left) and the Polka Dot Crop Top and Short Set.

Make sure you check out their website, right now they are gearing up on the spring and the summer clothes and I have found a lot of vintage looking pieces on there this week. You can also take the pieces from here and pair them with actual vintage reproduction or true vintage pieces that they have. Let me know if you find anything at your Forever 21 that you can incorporate into your vintage wardrobe!

Outfit of the Day

April 20, 2018 Outfit of the Day

Supposedly it’s suppose to get up to 53 degrees to day, but when I woke up this morning it was still chilly so I decided it was a good chance to wear one of my thicker wool tartan skirts before I have to put them away for the summer. I love this skirt because it has pockets!! Anytime I can get a vintage style dress or skirt with pockets I am always happier. Which raises a question. Why are the pockets in my vintage style skirts and dresses bigger then the pockets in my modern jeans?!? Sometime the pockets are sewn shut and just for show too! All the more reason just to wear vintage all the time! Because it was chilly this morning I also got to wear my favorite Emmy Designs Peggy Sue Cardigan that I posted about in my Spring Cardigan Post a few days ago. I’m also having fun finding the perfect Lipsense Liquid Lip Stick color combinations that look like they would have been worn in the 40s and 50s.

Cardigan: Emmy Design Peggy Sue Cardigan

Top: Forever 21

Skirt: Plaid Wool Knee Length Vintage Winter Swing Skirts from Amazon

Shoes: Chase & Chloe Kimmy Teardrop Cut Out T-Strap Heel  from Amazon

Brooch: True Vintage from Anna Pearl’s Curiosities in Niantic, CT

For my lips I used my favorite Liquid Lipstick, Lipsense! The thing I love about Lipsense is that is last a long time, doesn’t get on your teeth or leave marks on your cups or glasses AND you can combine different colors together to make a completely new color. The color I’m wearing is two layers of Blu-Red and two layers of Roseberry, topped with Rose Gloss.

The weather is supposed to be semi nice this weekend so I am excited to wear something a little more springy, that I haven’t had the chance to wear yet. What are your favorite vintage pieces to wear for chilly spring days?
